Silos Puerto Madero/

2022Olga Cossettini 747, C1107 Buenos Aires

Concept/

The shaping idea: reintroducing nature to the Silos Puerto Madero site, giving impulse to the local public and tourism without destroying the historical legacy. The project sits at the crossing point of three key elements — Mujeres Argentinas park, the canal, and the silos themselves.

Where the sheer concrete mass manifests itself as a rocky mountain, the canal and the park stand for the wild — water and forest. The spatial concept carves out caves and grottos to stimulate public life among watery and greenery landscapes.

Program/

The ground level connects the building with its surroundings through open public spaces and water ponds flowing into one another, capturing natural pedestrian trajectories and directing them either up — to the vertical park — or through the building via an enlarged portal with waterfalls to Juana Manso street and the park beyond. A café and bookstore anchor the ground floor.

Each upper level is designed to capture enough sunlight for abundant vegetation, with open park floors at ~8 m height and semi-open sublevels at ~4 m. The program includes a museum, theater, library, and multifunctional auditoriums. The rectangular tower is dedicated entirely to offices. The highest level is an open park with observation points — views to the city and the Atlantic Ocean.

Approach/

Openness to the public and renaturalization of the abandoned historical environment — creating a public center that is useful and profitable without heavy gentrification. A place where time and context aren't detached from one another, but bound together through history and site.
